How To Care for your Virgin Hair

Note for all textures: The true texture and volume of the hair will be revealed after you co-wash the hair and properly prepare the texture by following our guidelines below. For most curly textures (except our tightest curls) the texture will be looser than it appears right out of the box after you properly prepare the hair.

Note regarding coloring: If you requested that we color the hair for you, the color may bleed the first few co-washes. Use a dark color towel to avoid staining your towels.  As a reminder, if we colored the hair for you, you can not color the hair again. Only our Natural black can be dyed. For more details on which hair quality level can be colored  and a reminder on the lifespan of each hair type visit this page

The texture you receive in your package may be flat due to packaging and shipping. The actual texture of the hair will be revealed after you wet and brush through the hair and allow to hair dry. As a reminder, the length of the hair is measured when the hair is stretched. Curly hair of course shrinks in its curly state. Follow these instructions to care for your kinky curly texture and reveal it’s true curl pattern as seen in our videos and customer images:

Your kinky curly unit loves moisture! By moisture we mean WATER. We recommend co-washing your unit in cool water a few times per week. Co-washing means to wash with conditioner. This texture does not need to be shampooed with traditional shampoo. If you do feel the need to shampoo with regular shampoo, only do so 1 time per month as to not dry out the kinky curly texture. To co-wash the hair we recommend using Aussie 7 in 1 Miracle conditioner. Once a month we recommend you give your unit a deep treatment using Silicon Mix conditioner. Do not use regular conditioner as a leave-in conditioner.  Regular conditioner that is meant to be rinsed out will actually dry out the hair if left in. Only use a cream, protein/keratin  based leave-in that is truly a leave-in conditioner.

After co-washing, your next step is to decide if you want to wear your hair coarse curly or with defined curls. If opting to wear it coarse curly, use a Denman brush to brush through the hair while wet. The curls around the top of the unit will look different according to how you brush the hair. To achieve defined curls at the top, while the hair is wet, brush the hair straight up toward the ceiling. Allow the curls to naturally fall into place. Do not brush the curls downward toward the floor. Doing so will cause your curls toward the top of the unit to be flat and wavy vs curly like the curls towards the ends of the hair. If you desire wavier curls at the top, brush the hair downward toward the floor. If you desire coarse curls with just a little bit of definition feel free to add a product such as Dark & Lovely Curling Glaze to the hair while the hair is wet. Once it is dry, fluff the hair with your fingers or a pick to achieve more volume and a coarser texture. Note: For tighter textures such as Nicole, be sure to brush the hair from the ends to the roots in order to prevent tugging on the wig which can cause you to pull out hair unnecessarily. If you do not have the time to brush the hair from the ends to the roots while it is wet then only finger comb your hair on a daily basis. However, when you do co-wash the hair, brush it from the ends to the roots. Never brush from the roots to the ends.

To achieve defined curls add a protein based leave-in conditioner followed by a curl defining product such as Dark & Lovely Curling Glaze  or our current favorite "Strictly Curls Curl Cream by Marc Anthony". Use a good amount of curl defining product. Either brush through the hair in small sections to achieve a style with volume and definition or AFTER detangling by brushing from the ends to the roots, brush the hair from the top of the wig straight down to the bottom to achieve a flatter sleeker look. Allow to air dry overnight for best results.

These textures can also be straightened with a flat iron. However straightening the texture too often can cause the curl pattern to loosen over time.

Note that the kinkier the texture, the more shedding you may experience depending on how you are combing through the hair. Be gentle and comb from the ends to the roots to avoid pulling hair excessive amount of hair out.

Do not use sheens, grease or oils on virgin human hair. Light serums are acceptable.

This hair can be worn in its natural texture with minimal work needed. It's also gorgeous wand curled. If you choose to wand curl, curl on a lower heat setting to maintain the coarse texture. Curling on a higher heat setting will straighten the texture causing it to look less coarse. This hair can also be straightened on high heat. It will look similar to our Yaki texture. Co-washing this hair with a quality protein/keratin based conditioner is recommended. If you need to shampoo use a protein/keratin based shampoo.

Do not use sheens, grease or oils on virgin human hair. Light serums are acceptable.

How to Care for Loose Curly or Wavy textures such as Arianna, Queen, Tara, Kym, and Samantha:

The texture you receive in your package may be flat due to packaging and shipping. The actual texture of the hair will be revealed AFTER you wet and brush through the hair and allow to hair dry. Follow these instructions to care for your loose curly or wavy texture:

We recommend co-washing your unit in cool water at least 1 time per week. Co-washing means to wash with conditioner. This texture does not need to be shampooed with traditional shampoo. If you do feel the need to shampoo with regular shampoo, try not to do so more than 2 times per month. To co-wash the hair we recommend switching up between  Aussie 7 in 1 Miracle conditioner and a protein/keratin based conditioner. Give your unit a deep treatment conditioner one time per month using Silicone Mix Intensive Hair Deep Treatment Conditioner or any other protein based deep treatment conditioner.

After co-washing, your next step is to decide if you want to wear your hair with loose soft waves/curls or with defined waves/curls. If opting to wear loose soft waves/curls, use a Denman brush to brush through the hair while wet using a protein based leave in conditioner. The amount you use will depend on the volume and length of the hair. Don't use too much. You don't want to weight the hair down. You just want to add light moisture and protein. Allow the hair to air dry. Once dry,  shake the hair or finger comb through the hair to loosen the curls and create your desired volume.

To wear defined curls/waves use a styling hair glaze while the hair is wet. For these textures we do not recommend using too much product. A little will go a long way with looser curls and waves.  Either brush through the hair in small sections to achieve a style with volume and definition or brush the hair from the top of the wig straight down to the ends to achieve a flatter sleeker look. Allow to air dry overnight for best results.

Do not use sheens, grease or oils on this hair. Light serums are acceptable.

How to Care for Straight textures such as Yaki and Kelsey (medium yaki)

These textures are meant to mimic coarse hair that has been relaxed. This will make it very easy to blend with your thin leave-out if you are wearing one. This hair can be washed shampoo. But just like all of our curly and natural texture wigs, you want to avoid dry strands. Co washing is always best but because this hair does not have curls, it can tolerate traditional shampooing. Try not to shampoo more than 2 times per month. Otherwise co-washing is recommended (washing with a protein based conditioner) . When flat ironing the hair do not use oils, waxes or sheen. Doing so can cause the hair to be stiff. Instead use a good protein/keratin based cream leave in conditioner. Air dry or blow dry the hair. Flat iron or curl using no other products for best results. Alternatively you can do a roller set using a wrapping lotion foaming mousse to achieve long lasting curls and volume. Holding spray/hair spray can be used on the hair. To use holding spray, spray each section right before you flat iron or curl it. Use a comb to evenly distribute the spray. Allow the spray to dry for a few seconds and then apply your flat iron or curling rod. For best results wait until you have curled all of the hair and allowed the curls to set and cool before brushing or combing the curls out. High heat can be applied to all of our textures. Yaki and Kelsey can get very straight when using temperatures of 450 degrees. However, neither of them will achieve a silky straight texture. They will always have a slight amount of texture to them as they are meant to mimic coarse hair that has been relaxed.

Do not use sheens, grease or oils on this hair. Light serums are acceptable.

These textures are silkier and finer. Co-wash the hair to see the true volume and luster of the hair. This hair is best worn straight. It will curl however the curls will not last long unless you use a significant amount of hair spray or setting lotion for a roller set. Even then, the curls will likely fall within a few hours. Co-wash this hair every 2 weeks. If you are using a lot of product such as hair spray for some reason, wash the hair with a protein based shampoo weekly.
